The 40th anniversary of Ramones, recently named the 'Greatest Punk Album Of All Time' by Rolling Stone, and certainly one of the most important and influential albums of all time. Features a brand NEW MONO MIX of the album -- the band had originally discussed recording the album in mono, but it was ultimately decided against. Plus 18 single mixes, outtakes, and demos, includes 8 previously unreleased tracks and Live At The Roxy, Hollywood, CA -- August 12, 1976 (Set 2 -- previously unreleased).
It was released on October 1, 1984, and is the first Ramones record to feature Richie Ramone on drums. With ex-member Tommy Ramone producing, the recording process was similar to that of the band's 1976 self-titled debut album. With the three-chord assault of 'Blitzkrieg Bop,' The Ramones begins at a blinding speed and never once over the course of its 14 songs does it let up. The Ramones is all about speed, hooks, stupidity, and simplicity. The songs are imaginative reductions of early rock & roll, girl group pop, and surf rock. Not only is the music boiled down to its essentials, but the Ramones offer a twisted, comical take on pop culture with their lyrics, whether it's the horror schlock of 'I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement,' the gleeful violence of 'Beat on the Brat,' or the maniacal stupidity of 'Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue.' And the cover of Chris Montez's 'Let's Dance' isn't a throwaway -- with its single-minded beat and lyrics, it encapsulates everything the group loves about pre-Beatles rock & roll. They don't alter the structure, or the intent, of the song, they simply make it louder and faster. And that's the key to all of the Ramones' music -- it's simple rock & roll, played simply, loud, and very, very fast. None of the songs clock in at any longer than two and half minutes, and most are considerably shorter. In comparison to some of the music the album inspired, The Ramones sounds a little tame -- it's a little too clean, and compared to their insanely fast live albums, it even sounds a little slow -- but there's no denying that it still sounds brilliantly fresh and intoxicatingly fun.

Taking its name from a 1974 horror film, It's Alive was the last album to feature all four original band members: Dee Dee Ramone, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone and Tommy Ramone. All four concerts included in the new Deluxe Edition capture the band in peak form as they storm through dozens of songs from the group's influential catalog. IT'S ALIVE: 40th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION features all four concerts that were professionally recorded during the Ramones' U.K. tour in December 1977, three making their debut release: Top Rank, Birmingham (December 28, 1977); Victoria Hall, Stoke-On-Trent (December 29, 1977); Friars, Aylesbury (December 30, 1977); and The Rainbow Theatre, London (December 31, 1977).
A rock'n'roll tsunami! On stage, the Ramones never questioned themselves, shooting at everything that moved just to remind everyone of their unique style; one that was anchored in traditional rock'n'roll yet incorporated surf music and punk. With foolishness as their philosophy, teenage carelessness as their credo, supersonic guitars as their weapon of mass destruction, this profession of faith – binary in form and playful in content – gave birth to amphetamine-fuelled hymns of bubble-gum pop such as Blitzkrieg Bop, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue and Judy Is A Punk. Recorded in 1977 at London's Rainbow Theatre on New Year's Eve, It's Alive includes these hits and many others, going at 200 mph through their first three albums: Ramones (1976), Leave Home (1977) and Rocket to Russia (1977). The gang from Forest Hills in Queens pack in 28 tracks in less than an hour! To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this live anthology from 1979, the Deluxe Edition proposes the original remastered album alongside a series of tracks recorded at other concerts during the same English tour in December 1977: the Top Rank in Birmingham on 28 th , Victoria Hall in Stoke-On-Trent on 29 th and the Friars in Aylesbury on 30 th . Without the frills of the studio versions (not that there were many in the first place), all the songs on It's Alive tap into that initial fury, which comes across as even more raw and effective.
